Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Information
Website Artwork
The artwork "Kinship Health" was created in 2005 by Heather Kamare Shearer specifically for the Auseinet Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gateway pages. Heather was born in Alice Springs and is of the Arrernte language group. She has had her artworks exhibited in Australia and overseas and has received many honours for her work.
This piece is based on the Auseinet logo, and in Heather's words:
"I have shown the hand that emanates the spiritual, mental and physical health of Aboriginal People. The interconnected information that is within the website reminded me of the kinship system within our culture - how each person/skin name is responsible for certain functions within the family. The side panels reflect the campfires of each of the eight skin names within my culture, and complement the representations of the eight people who come together to ensure the spiritual, mental and physical health of our people in the centre."
