Social and Emotional Wellbeing

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience high levels of social, emotional and mental health problems. Difficulties with social and emotional wellbeing can result from unresolved grief and loss, physical health issues, child removal policies, incarceration, cultural dislocation, racism and discrimination or social disadvantage.

Treatment of the problems that arise from these issues is only part of the overall picture. We also need to:

Promote mental health and wellbeing
Prevent mental disorders from developing
Intervene as soon as possible by recognising and acting on early warning signs.

Auseinet has produced:

  •  a factsheet about promotion, prevention and early intervention specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people: to download  click here
